BuzzCode is operated by Colón Bacó LLC, Puerto Rico, United States. This page explains what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what you can do about it. It covers two different groups of people: the account holder, and anyone whose call reaches an intercom number we provide.
What we collect about you, the account holder
- The email address you sign in with.
- What you tell us about each unit: the name you give it, the building name if you add one, and its timezone.
- Your BuzzCodes (access codes) — both the name you give each one and the BuzzCode itself.
- A forwarding number, if you set one, and any email address or mobile number you ask us to send alerts to.
- An identifier linking you to your Stripe customer record.
We never see your card details. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe; your card number never reaches our systems.
What we collect about calls to your number
For each call to an intercom number we provide, we record:
- The number that dialled.
- When the call started and ended, and how long it lasted.
- What happened — gate opened, wrong BuzzCode, no answer, and so on.
- Which of your BuzzCodes was used, if one matched.
Two limits are worth stating plainly. First, the number that dialled is normally your building's intercom panel, not your visitor's own phone — the panel places the call, so we never learn the phone number of the person standing at the gate. Second, we do not record audio and we do not keep a transcript of anything anyone says. When a unit uses spoken BuzzCodes, the words are converted to text only to check them against your BuzzCodes, and are discarded immediately; they are never stored or shown to anyone.
The call duration is the length of the phone call, usually a few seconds. It says nothing about how long anyone stayed. The part of the log that identifies a person is the name you chose for a BuzzCode, so bear that in mind when naming them.
Why we use it
- To answer the call, check the BuzzCode, and open your gate.
- To show you an activity log of what has happened at your unit.
- To stop repeated guessing, by locking a unit after several wrong BuzzCodes.
- To email you the alerts you have switched on.
- To take payment and keep your subscription running.
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Call history is deleted automatically after one year. A scheduled job removes older records every day.
- Your units, BuzzCodes and settings are kept while your account exists.
- Deleting a unit immediately deletes its BuzzCodes and its entire call history.
- Deleting your account deletes everything above. Billing records are kept by Stripe as their own records require.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of suppliers to run BuzzCode. They handle data on our behalf:
- Twilio — the phone numbers and the calls themselves.
- Stripe — subscriptions and payments.
- Resend — sign-in links and alert emails.
- Vercel — hosting, and page-view counts for the public site that use no cookies and do not identify you.
- Neon — the database.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or ourselves.
Your choices
- You can see and change your units, BuzzCodes and settings at any time in the app.
- Deleting a unit removes its BuzzCodes and call history straight away.
- You can delete your whole account from the Account page. Subscriptions are cancelled and numbers released first. This cannot be undone.
- For anything else, including a copy of what we hold, email support@getbuzzcode.com.
Security
Traffic to BuzzCode is encrypted, access to our systems is restricted, and every call from our telephone provider is verified before it is answered. One thing you should know: BuzzCodes are stored in a readable form, because you need to be able to look them up and because a spoken BuzzCode has to be compared against what was said. That means our staff could technically read them. Treat a BuzzCode like a spare key rather than a password, and do not reuse a code you use anywhere else.
No system is perfectly secure. If something happens that affects your information, we will tell you.
Children
BuzzCode is not intended for children and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will email the address on your account before it takes effect. The date at the top of this page always shows when it last changed.
